Acorn Project

In April 2017 we launched our exciting fundraising mission: to raise £200,000 for a new community building for the village, which will also be the location of our Pre-School during term-time weekdays.  The children had a visit from a mini-digger to mark the big day!

Since then, there has been lot of successful fundraising:

  • The children enjoyed a Sponsored Slide-A-Thon
  • The Muddy Mummies (mums and staff from the Pre-School) “enjoyed” a 10k muddy obstacle race
  • And there have been lots of other events, including quizzes, a fundraising Christmas card, and a “Cycle to Santa” bucket-shaking event in Tesco.

And we are very lucky that we have had lots of support from the local community: our “Buy-A-Brick” for £5 appeal was very popular; we have had significant donations from Terry Clements (the Mayor and Horringer Councillor), and the Horringer Women’s Institute. And we look forward to launching our next major appeal, asking local businesses to become our “Friend”, shortly.

So far we have raised over £60,000 which is wonderful!  And we have already received £5,000 in grants from our applications to funding bodies, which are underway at the moment.  We have already received planning permission for the new building we designed, with all the facilities we would like for the Pre-School and the local community (in December 2017).  But we still have a long way to go!

The Project is being overseen by the Pre-School Committee, with Ruth Walker and Kirsten Goodwin working hard as the Project Management Team.

If you would like to help us in any way, from volunteering your time or services to a financial donation, we would be very grateful!  Please contact Ruth on
